Sammie (What I See)

As someone who has faced the reality of being from a marginalised community, I have long felt that the humanity behind the headlines and statistics has been condensed to a smaller and smaller byline. I’ve seen the stories of oppression and social injustice unfold, I have lived my share of them. I’m here to try and share some of the human side of what’s happening behind the headlines. I take all my own photographs, some on 35mm film, almost always in monochrome, not to add volume but to extract feeling and emotion that has long been passed over by sensationalist media and viral videos. I don’t want to tell you what’s right, I don’t want to tell you want to think. I just want to show you what I see and let you decide if and when you care.
