After publishing a book on the subject of UK Coalition Government penal policies in 2016, I thought that it would be useful to further stimulate debate by offering this blog. I taught criminology in higher education for over 30 years and attended various Universities myself including Teesside (BSc), Sheffield (MA), Cambridge (MPhil) and Hull (PhD). I worked for the Independent Monitoring Board at a prison in the North West of England, acting as Chair of the Board for three years. In the 1990's and early 00s I was involved in crime prevention research particuarly focusing on the impact of town centre CCTV systems. When not preparing items for this blog and another book for publication, I engage in mountain walking, and have completed all the 'Wainwrights' in the Lake District and 179 of the 282 'Munros' (mountains over 3,00ft) in Scotland. I have also walked in the Alps, Pyrenees, Dolomites and Apennines and some of the low hills around the beautiful Bay of Kotor in Montenegro.
