Grew up in Portland, attended Marshall High, then earned a bachelors degree in journalism at the University of Oregon in Eugene. Now living in Beaverton, married, two kids, spent more than 31 years as a sportswriter at The Oregonian before the company reorganized in 2013 and laid off several senior writers. Went on to do freelance work for the Associated Press, Eugene-Register Guard, University of Portland, Etzel Public Relations, and others before joining Pamplin Media, first as the sports editor at the Molalla Pioneer and then as the sports editor of the Clackamas Review and the Oregon City News.
