Kū Kahakalau, Ph.D.

Aloha. I'm Dr. Kū Kahakalau, better known as Aunty Kū. And I am super excited that you have chosen to learn more about being Hawaiian. Let me explain. For the past 30 years, I have been a Hawaiian teacher, researcher, grassroots activist, community leader, AND a Hawaiian practitioner, meaning I practice what I teach - at least I try. In Hawaiian, we call that kū a kanaka, to stand as a Hawaiian, to live like a Hawaiian, to be Hawaiian. After literally teaching thousands of Hawaiians of all ages in and out- of the classroom across Hawaiʻi and beyond, I have realized that in order to make the biggest impact and initiative large scale connection to our native language and culture, we have to use the latest in modern technology. This is where the idea of creating Hawaiian-focused webinars was born.
