This blog, “Downward Mobility” explores a concept talked about by Jesus and later named by Henri Nouwen. I want this to be part diary, part study, and part conversation with my readers. I’m motivated by the idea that writing about nonintuitive living will help me think about it more clearly, more deeply, and more often, and that it would help me live more in that way. Henri Nouwen hoped that his writings would be a “reminder to himself of how he ought to be.” That’s my hope too. I need lots of reminders. It’s all very experimental, and I’ll be making it up as I go.
