Server and Bartender, Tuscan Sea Grill
he/him · Newburyport, MA

Alexander Staffa earned an Associate of Science degree from Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs and later attended Metropolitan State University of Denver. After living in Colorado for 29 years, Alex moved to Amesbury, Massachusetts. He now plans to continue his education by completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. To take the next step, he has applied to several schools in The Bay State. While preparing for his return to school, Alex is employed as a server and bartender at Tuscan Sea Grill in Newburyport, Massachusetts. This coastal town, located roughly 35 miles from Boston, draws many tourists year-round. His role allows him to meet new people and engage with a wide variety of visitors, which makes the job both active and rewarding. Alex Staffa’s decision to pursue Chemistry comes from a lasting interest in how things work at the most basic level. He is especially drawn to atoms, molecules, and reactions, and how these building blocks influence everyday life. From food and medicine to environmental processes, he finds value in understanding the science behind them. Alex is confident working in a lab setting, where he can test theories, observe results, and apply knowledge in practical ways. His interests include synthesizing chemical compounds, analyzing materials, and contributing to sustainable research. Alex brings a thoughtful and focused approach to his studies, but he also values creative thinking. This helps him approach scientific challenges with an open mind. Through Chemistry, he sees potential in fields such as pharmaceutical preparation, environmental science, forensics, and education. He is committed to applying what he learns in a way that has real-world benefits. Born in Louisville, Colorado, Alex Staffa began skiing at the age of five. His early years gave him access to ski areas like Copper Mountain, Keystone, Breckenridge, and Arapahoe Basin. While attending college in Steamboat Springs—often known as “Ski Town, USA”—he skied 100 days each year for three seasons from 2013 to 2016. With 297 named trails across 2,965 acres, he had many opportunities to challenge himself and improve. For Alex, skiing was a way to connect with the natural world. The snow-covered terrain, fresh alpine air, and quiet landscapes made the experience meaningful. The sport also helped him develop physical strength, balance, and endurance. As he worked to improve his skills, he gained confidence that extended beyond the slopes. Skiing also gave him lasting memories with family and friends, making it an important part of his life. In addition to skiing, Alex enjoys spending time outdoors through activities such as dirt biking, hiking, and tubing. These hobbies keep him active and allow him to explore new areas. He especially enjoys visiting national parks, where he finds motivation in the scenery and variety of natural settings. Whether on a trail, riding through open land, or floating along a river, he appreciates the sense of discovery the outdoors provides. Alexander Staffa also enjoys indoor hobbies. He plays video games and board games, including Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). As someone interested in Chemistry, he enjoys the creative and strategic aspects of the game. D&D gives him a space to create stories, build characters, and make decisions. It’s also a social experience, whether played online or in person. The problem-solving and teamwork involved make it a meaningful and enjoyable activity for him.
