Ahmed Akbar Sobhan

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan is a Bangladeshi business leader and the Founder of Bashundhara Group. Born on February 15, 1952, in Islampur, a historic area in Dhaka, he was raised in a family that valued education and public service. As the youngest among five siblings, he grew up in a supportive environment. His father served as a lawyer in the Dhaka High Court. After completing his early education, he attended the University of Dhaka and earned a degree in Business Studies. He was also active in sports and student activities throughout his academic journey. In 1978, he took his first steps into the professional world by joining the service sector. At the same time, he began exploring opportunities in commercial trade. These early experiences proved valuable in shaping his understanding of business operations. A significant turning point came when he founded East West Property Development (Pvt) Ltd., which would eventually evolve into the foundation of the Bashundhara Group. The real estate company quickly earned recognition and was soon widely known as Bashundhara Housing, becoming a trusted name in local property development. Following this initial success, he expanded the company’s scope to include other areas such as cement, paper, steel, LP gas, dredging, and food processing. Over time, the group grew to manage several dozen companies across a wide range of sectors. Today, he serves as the Founder of Bashundhara Group, one of the most extensive business entities in Bangladesh. Under his guidance, the group has developed a clear structure and delegation process that supports efficiency and long-term planning. Beyond his business activities, he has maintained a strong connection to social service. Through both personal involvement and corporate efforts, he has contributed to humanitarian projects aimed at improving the lives of others.
